For Mej. Janssen, the oldest restaurant in Arnhem, we built a new three-language site and moved everything across without losing a single old address.
mejjanssenarnhem.nl ↗Mej. Janssen has been on the Duizelsteeg, behind the Korenmarkt in Arnhem, since 1976. A French café and restaurant with a Burgundian menu. We designed and built the new website and moved the old site over to it. It went live on 27 September 2026.
The brief
The old site ran on WordPress with a shared hosting provider. The menu and the wine list were online as PDFs. The ask: a site that shows the atmosphere of the restaurant, that people can find, and that loses nothing of what was already there.

The design
Dark green with gold and beige, refined over a few rounds with the owner. A classic typeface for the headings, a handwritten one for the small labels, and room for the photography. The photos come from the restaurant's own shoot; we selected and cropped them for the site. From two of those photos we made a short video in which the bisque is poured over the lobster at the table.
The site is built to work for everyone: clear focus outlines, enough contrast, buttons big enough to hit with your thumb, and self-hosted fonts so nothing has to load from elsewhere.
What we delivered
A site in Dutch, English and German: home, the menu, drinks, atmosphere, contact and a booking page with the restaurant's own booking system built in. The menu and the wine list are now text on the page instead of PDFs. On top of that, three landing pages for what people actually search for: a romantic dinner, a wine bar in Arnhem, and vegetarian and gluten-free food.
Search engines get structured data about the restaurant, the menu and the frequently asked questions, with a sitemap and language references on every page.

The move
More than a hundred old addresses redirect to their new place, and we checked every one of them on the live site. That keeps links from other sites and from Google working. Only the domain's pointer changed; the email stayed untouched. We carried over the tracking for the contact form and the bookings so the numbers stay comparable, and analytics only starts after cookie consent. The contact form goes straight to the restaurant.
The result
mejjanssenarnhem.nl has been running on the new site since 27 September 2026, in three languages, without a single old link breaking.
